Purpose
This policy is legally binding. It outlines the conditions under which eBikes rented or sold by Playa eBikes® may be used on unpaved roads. Use of eBikes outside of intended conditions, especially on unpaved terrain, may result in safety issues, accelerated wear, voided warranties, and loss of deposit. Users assume full responsibility for such usage.
Scope
This policy applies to all customers renting or purchasing eBikes from Playa eBikes®. It is designed to inform users of the risks, limitations, and consequences of using eBikes on unpaved roads, dirt paths, sand, gravel, or similarly rough terrain.
Performance on Unpaved Roads
- Performance Expectations: eBikes are designed and optimized for paved roads and smooth surfaces. Use on unpaved roads may result in:
- Lower speed
- Reduced battery life
- Less efficient motor performance
- Accelerated wear of tires, brakes, and suspension
- Range Reduction: Driving range may be reduced by 50% or more during unpaved use. Additional batteries are available for purchase to ensure longer trips.
- Manufacturer Ratings Disclaimer: Published top speed, range, and battery life reflect optimal conditions on paved roads. These ratings are not guaranteed on rough terrain.
Ingress Protection & Environmental Limitations
eBikes are IP53 rated — resistant to light dust and water spray. They are not waterproof, sand-proof, or sealed for use in extreme desert environments. Excessive exposure to dust, sand, or moisture from off-road use may damage internal components and seals.
Deposit Liability for Unpaved Use
Damage resulting from improper or excessive use on unpaved roads — including but not limited to worn tires, broken axles, damaged electronics, bent rims, or malfunctions due to dust, sand, or overloading — may result in partial or full deposit forfeiture. Customers will be notified of all charges with documentation.
Prohibited Use
- eBikes are strictly single-rider vehicles. Riding with more than one person is not allowed.
- Overloading the eBike or attaching heavy gear not approved by Playa eBikes® is prohibited.
- Jumping curbs, ramps, or off-road riding beyond light dirt trails voids the performance guarantee and deposit protection.
Maintenance and Care
- Regular Maintenance: After any use on unpaved roads, inspect:
- Tires for wear or punctures
- Brakes for dust buildup or degradation
- Motor and wiring for visible debris or damage
- Cleaning: Gently clean the bike with a damp cloth. Do not use pressurized water, especially near the battery or electrical components.
Customer Responsibilities
- Operate the eBike safely and within intended use parameters.
- Accept the risk of reduced performance or range on rough terrain.
- Report any issues or damage immediately to Playa eBikes® support.
- Follow all guidelines regarding inspection, cleaning, and return.
- Record a return video showing the bike’s condition, including tires, frame, battery, keys, and charger.
Risk of Injury & Liability Waiver
By using the eBike on unpaved or rough terrain, the user accepts all risk of injury, damage, or accident. Playa eBikes® is not responsible for any bodily harm, property loss, or third-party damage resulting from off-road or improper use.
Return Condition Video Requirement
All renters must record a 360-degree video of the bike upon return. This video must show:
- Entire frame condition
- Handlebars and controls
- Both tires
- Charger, keys, and battery present
Failure to provide this video may result in a delay or denial of your deposit refund.
Policy Enforcement
- Violations of this policy may result in full or partial forfeiture of your deposit.
- Repeated or serious violations may result in refusal of future rentals.
- Examples of violations include:
- Excessive or abusive off-road use
- Riding with two people
- Operating during sandstorms or rainstorms
- Returning the bike in non-functional condition
- Failing to record a proper return condition video
Compliance
- We comply with all applicable regulations and safety standards for electric bicycles.
- This policy is subject to change without notice. You are responsible for reviewing the version current at the time of your rental.
Renter Acknowledgment
By signing below, I agree and confirm that I:
- Understand eBikes are designed for paved roads and light recreational use.
- Accept full liability for wear or damage caused by use on unpaved roads.
- Will not overload or ride with more than one person.
- Will return the eBike clean, functional, and with all accessories intact.
- May lose part or all of my deposit for violating this policy or causing damage.
- Release Playa eBikes® from liability for any injury or damage resulting from off-road use.
- Understand that off-road use voids performance guarantees and may accelerate battery drain and mechanical issues.
